Stradbroke afternoon

Dolphin finding
the perfect rainbow wave
to surf and fall and kiss
in the molten gold
of Stradbroke after noon

Cocky gulls
marking out the beach
They know that man
can never own what’s good
It comes on a short lease.

And in the evening hiss
kookaburra on a wire
The stars above his head
waiting for a feed.
