as good as me

your revenge is to hurt me
the way you imagine
you have been hurt

and if you were bigger
your revenge would be
to show me how love is
how you believe it should be

but you are not bigger
and if you were
we would not be having
revenge

your love is a small thing
withered and taciturn
you think that is worth fighting for
but anyone
who wanted it
would not have
the balls to fight
at all.

hey, i am the epitome
of the rough and the smooth
(although, frankly,
the smooth is winning
by a clear mile
and you know it too
it must be hard to maintain
the rage
in the knowledge that
what you have
is not all that bad)
but i have a good heart
you know
there aren't many around

you think that everyone
is good
but me

but i am the only
good thing i see.
You just won't ever
find as good as me,
as bad as that is
as good as can be.

Glider

do you ever think
you are swimming on top of a deep ocean
and all you need to do is close your eyes,
let go
and sink?

do you ever feel
that while you were sleeping
you were emplanted
a tree in silt
and the silt slowly hardens
until you're in concrete
and no longer move?

do i know you
do we know each other
when we cannot touch
or be together?
not distance or time
or any small difference
but the bars on our cages
hold us apart.

have you ever known
anyone beautiful
who could somehow touch you
see sometimes right through you
moving beside you?

do you ever think
you are flying
soaring
high up on an autumn day
on the last warm draught
of our coolest year?
do you ever feel
you are floating
and all you need do
is breathe?
